When it comes to trailer axles there are two main types Torsion Axles and Spring Axles. You might be thinking what's the difference and what would work better for me? Well you found the right place because I'm going to break them down for you. And our amazing parts and service department can assist you with more questions and answers!!

Torsion Axle -- A Torsion axle is a suspension system that uses individual arms on each tire allowing flex to a tire when it hits a pot hole on the road. The steel rod is encased in high density rubber. The rubber is used to cushion the axle when it impacts on uneven road terrain.

What are the advantages of a Torsion Axle?

1.) It creates a smoother ride because the rubberized torsion arms absorb the blow from pot holes or running over other objects.

2.) Torsion axles provide better control on the road because they reduce the bounce and sway of the trailer.

3.) There is less maintenance with a torsion axle because you don't have all of the moving parts the way you do on a spring axle.

4.) Torsion Axles allow for the deck to be lower this help eliminate a dovetail on an equipment trailer and the loading height of a dump trailer. You can get different degree torsion axles depending on how high of a loading deck you need.

Spring Axle -- Leaf Spring Axles are the most common suspension system in the trailer industry. They are made up of a series of curved steel pieces (leaves) stacked on top of each other and hung over or under the axle to help support the weight. With a spring axle you can get multiple weight variations for the same size axle to either beef up or go down in weight if you want to save money.

What are the advantages of a Leaf Spring Axle?

1.) You can replace individual parts on a spring axle and the parts are easily obtained and installed.

2.) Spring axles are an inexpensive option on a new trailer and on repairs.

3.)Spring axles don’t require welding to replace an entire axle just a few nuts and bolts

For Hauling Livestock, Hauling on rough terrain, or watercraft Torsion Axle it the route to go.

If you are just hauling on road surfaces and need an inexpensive trailer option then Spring axles are the route to go.
